In this fast forward world, It is difficult to maintain good habits whereas you can get easily into bad habits. We also don’t get time to work on self-improvement as lots of time gets spent on jobs and schools. And when we get time on holiday we probably spent on binge-watching series on Netflix. Habits are very important in our life. It shaped your life. I read in Atomic Habits by James Clear that
“Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement”
Whatever small things you do every day may seem that not that great, but in long run, it has an enormous effect. In this post, I will tell you about 3 simple habits that can improve your life.
Reading is my most favourite thing to do whenever I am free. Since childhood I love to read, it doesn’t matter it’s comics or newspapers or books. I am always fond of reading. Daily reading has lots of benefits. It helps to reduce stress and boredom. You get more knowledge while reading which builds confidence as you have the knowledge and new words and phrases which you can use in everyday life. Constant reading also increases your focus and how to be patient. If you aren’t used to the habit of reading. You can start small by reading comics or blogs on the internet. As you get used to that you can move to big books or novels if you want.
Whenever someone thinks about writing they think of long novels or big nonfiction books on various topics. It doesn’t have to be like that. You could write anything you like. Any thoughts or subjects you love you can write them down. You can start a journal where you write every day about what happened in a day and whatever things you thought about that day. You can keep small dairy with yourself or on notes app like eg. Google docs. Whenever you feel like writing, you can open your phone or diary and write wherever you want to write. You can show it to others or put it on blogs. Even if you don’t do that’s okay. You can always go back and read what was you thinking or what you wanted to do in past and have to see if anything change since that time.
Daily writing will help you to structure your random thoughts and put them on paper. It will also improve your writing skills and grammar which will be helpful in your professional life.
- Walking / Hiking
“I would encourage every American to walk as often as possible. It’s more than healthy; it’s fun.”—John F. Kennedy (1962)
As technology gets better and better we are doing less and less physical work. Our day to day activities is done by machines. Most jobs are about spending 8-9 hours sitting behind a desk. So we need to exercise every day to stretch muscles. Walking is the best exercise. I don’t like going to the gym and doing heavy lifting though It also has advantages. But I prefer to go walking in the neighbourhood or go on hiking a small mountain in nearby my town. It doesn’t take a lot of effort and it also gives you time to think. And you don’t any special tools to doing that. You just need your legs and you can walk how much you want. When you hike around mountains you don’t hear city noise and there is peace. You can put aside your daily problems and think about other things. Or don’t things about anything else and just enjoy nature as you hike around it. It also helps to reduce tension or stress for time being.
